To this day I can clearly recall that summer afternoon in 1974 - arriving in town and viewing Lake Pend Oreille with the majestic snow capped mountains as a backdrop and I was sure I had found paradise. My family and I had made the long, hot journey by car from our home in Ketchum, Idaho, and I could not wait to swim in the beautiful and immense lake. With the exuberance born of youth, I embraced Sandpoint and all of its glory on that fine summer day and have never lost my enthusiasm for this area. Even as a young adult, I realized that Sandpoint is a great place to live year-round and I dreamed of the day when I could make it my home. Schweitzer had become my favorite winter destination on the West Coast, and the long summer days on the lake had only gotten more enjoyable with time. A considerable amount of my youth was spent in Portland, Oregon, where I completed my education and later honed my skills in the business world. In 1995, my dream to live in Sandpoint was fulfilled when I purchased a historic home that was once the town hospital and birthplace to many of Sandpoint's noted residents. Sandpoint is where my wife and I will raise our children. It offers the perfect balance of four seasons, cultural events and activities that far surpass its small town feel, plus strong private and public school programming. And, of course, there is lots of wonderful year-round outdoor recreation. Today, over 30 years from the day that I first arrived in Sandpoint, I am still convinced that this area is pure paradise.
